My Life of Service

School of Diaconal Formation

“I had a desire to do more for the Church. Whatever God asked me to do, I would do it for Him, but I was not sure where it would lead me. I had several moments where things came together, and I realized that God was calling me to a life of service. He was calling me to be a Deacon. After some discussions and discernment of her own, my wife, Jennifer, agreed. This is what lead us to our journey to the Diaconate Program at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary.

I have been studying in the Diaconate Program at the seminary for six years and, God willing, I will be ordained in June. Some people think we can get it done faster, but it’s not just an education; it is genuinely a formation. We are being conformed to Christ the servant –this does not happen overnight. To mold ourselves into a different shape takes time, and the seminary is an excellent place for this to happen.

A Deacon brings a different aspect to Church ministry. It is wonderful for the Church in that I can be a father, a husband, an employee, have a great relationship with God, and be His servant at the same time.

It is vital to support the Seminary Appeal, not just for the sake of forming Deacons; it is because having priests in our lives is necessary for our happiness. Priests are the only ones who can give us the sacraments, especially the Eucharist. And it is through these sacraments that we come to understand God’s love for us more fully. The Seminary Appeal enables young men to discern their call to bring these sacraments to each of us.
